NEW YORK – A Yamaha Rivage PM10 Digital Audio Console was used at the 2018 Grammy Awards Premiere Ceremony, a three-hour event held on Jan. 28 at the Theater at Madison Square Garden. Independent mixer Erik von Ranson handled audio mix duties for in-theater audio for the live-streamed event, held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. just prior to the 60th Grammy Awards live broadcast later that evening. Firehouse Productions, which supplied the console for the “pre-Grammy” event, also supplied a Yamaha PM10 for the Grammy Awards ceremony staged in Madison Square Garden’s main venue that evening from 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.

More details from Yamaha (http://www.yamahaproaudio.com/):

This year’s “pre-Grammys” event featured 75 award presentations plus performances by Paul Schaffer’s band and five additional musical acts.. Von Ranson previously used the PM10 for the NBA Draft event and Night of Too Many Stars. “I often have to mix by numbers and meters when working on a live TV show as I’m not always able to monitor all of the signal paths. I find that much easier on Yamaha consoles than on any other manufacturer’s console.”

Von Ranson added that the PM10’s large input/output count and sophisticated routing, as well as 64-channels of Dan Dugan Designs auto-mixer “makes the use of a PM10 as a production desk hard to beat. Also, to my ears, it is probably the best sounding digital console I’ve used.”

In addition to the GRAMMY Premiere event, a Yamaha PM10 was also used at the live broadcast. Firehouse Productions, New York, provided both consoles. V.P. of Design, Mark Dittmar, chose the PM10 for both events. “The legendary reliability of Yamaha desks makes it the prefect choice for high profile shows like the GRAMMY Awards. They sound amazing and flexible card slot options make it very easy to integrate into large shows like this.”
