MONTREAL – Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group (CDSEG), parent company to Cirque and Blue Man Group tours and residency productions around the world, announced the need to seek CCAA (Canada) and Chapter 15 (U.S.) protection from creditors due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic’s impact on its operations.
“CDSEG is not bankrupt, and rather sought court protection from its creditors under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA) in Canada and Chapter 15 in the US, in order to avoid bankruptcy,” the company noted on its website in late June.
“Because of the tremendous financial impact of the health crisis on the company and the fact that we have no clear timeline on when we will be allowed to get back on stage, we have no choice but to take a pause for a little while.”
With the exception of The Land of Fantasy, which reopened June 3 in China, all shows are currently on hold, along with refunds to ticketholders. “Tickets for suspended and rescheduled performances remain valid,” the company added, noting that “performances will resume once the pandemic is under control.”
