FRANKFURT, Germany — Originally planned as a three-day (Friday to Sunday, April 29 to May 1, 2022 event, Musikmesse has been cancelled for 2022, although a new concept for a future event is being planned. “The consumer trade fair formats Musikmesse Plaza and Musikmesse Festival will not be held in April 2022 owing to the current situation and the short lead time involved,” according to an online statement made by Messe Frankfurt, the organizers of the combination tradeshow/music festival event.
Other factors were also cited: “Hygiene rules made planning very difficult above all for large-scale concerts by international artists, concerts in clubs and unusual locations, and music education events. The dramatic transformation in the instrument market, where over 70 percent of sales are now attributed to a small number of online retailers, has already had a very negative effect on the Musikmesse trade exhibition in recent years and is one of the factors driving the transformation from a B2B to a B2C event. In view of this, Messe Frankfurt will no longer be continuing the B2B part of the Musikmesse but instead will restructure music-related B2C formats at a later point in time.”
In related news, with the Russian invasion of Ukraine posing an unprecedented threat to peaceful coexistence in Europe, the Messe Frankfurt board of management announced that it decided to suspend events of its subsidiary Messe Frankfurt RUS until further notice.
Prolight+Sound 2022 to Continue as Usual
It should be emphasized that the upcoming Prolight+Sound 2022 tradeshow — dedicated to professional audio, lighting, projection and services/technologies for entertainment and integrated systems — will be held in Messe Frankfurt from April 26-29, 2022 at the usual Frankfurt Messe location. Hundreds of companies will showcase the latest in audio, lighting, stage, media, laser, projector, video and security technologies.
