Dallas House of Blues Opens with Electro-Voice XLC DVX

DALLAS —The latest addition to the successful House of Blues brand opened in Dallas on May 8 with an inaugural performance by Dallas native, Erykah Badu. The new venue includes a 1,625-capacity music hall, a 400-seat restaurant, special events facilities, a company store and a Foundation Room consisting of a private lounge and fine dining area for members. The sound system features the latest XLC DVX line arrays from Electro-Voice, along with a full compliment of EV P and CP series amplifiers, Midas mixing consoles and Klark Teknik Square One signal processing.

Give It a Name: NEXO Calls It NXStream

REDDITCH, ENGLAND — The three days of the Give It A Name indoor shows in late April are seen as the start of the U.K. festival season, as up-and-coming new alt-rock bands rotate through three venues in England and Scotland. With up to 12 acts a day going through each stage of the early spring festival, this was a great opportunity for an army of different front-of-house engineers to get their hands on the NEXO GEO T line array, running the newly launched NXStream management software.

Meyer Sound MILO Keeps the Beat at Ultra Music Festival

MIAMI — The Ultra Music Festival, an outdoor electronic music event, was held this year at Bicentennial Park in downtown Miami, Fla., and attracted 50,000 fans from around the world. Over the two-day period, the nine outdoor stages featured performances by The Cure, Carl Cox, Fatboy Slim, Paul Van Dyk, and Tiesto, among others.

Pooch Van Druten Rocks it with Linkin Park and Adamson

BERLIN — On April 29, Linkin Park gave a Berlin audience a preview of its upcoming European and North American tours. For the preview, Kenneth “Pooch” Van Druten, Linkin Park’s FOH engineer, used Adamson Y-18s and T-21 Subs, with various Adamson Yaxis partners providing the required systems for the European dates. Jochen Sommer of Adamson assisted with the final system design, which featured eight Y10s and two T-21 Subs per side to cover the main floor plus a rear balcony measuring 9.85’ in height and 6.5’ in depth. The system was ground-stacked on 2.6’-high stage platforms. The stage right balcony, serving as the V.I.P. area, added 4’ more, so two conventional 15-1/2" GAE speakers were used to cover the area.

Crest Audio Debuts New Sound Mixing Console

MERIDIAN, MS — Crest Audio has introduced the CV-20 live-sound mixing console, a VCA audio solution designed for applications such as front-of-house, monitors and monitors from front-of-house. The CV-20 is available in 24, 32, 40, 48 and 56 mono input configurations with four-band sweepable EQ and fully parametric mid-frequency control on each mono input. A feature set of 12 aux sends, eight subgroup assignments and L/C/R panning to the Left/Right and Mono busses provides audio routing options.

American Idol Comes Home with Cobra

SEATTLE — The Seattle suburb of Bothell, WA, was the site for the May 11 homecoming concert by local hero and American Idol finalist Blake Lewis.  The American Idol crew was on hand to film Lewis and his four-piece band perform in a local park. Mills Music of Seattle supplied the PA; Mills’ Ric Webb manned the mix on the Midas console.

Turbosound Rocks As Camden Crawls

LONDON — Audio rental company Britannia Row tested Turbosound’s brand new NuQ loudspeakers at the Camden Crawl music festival. Featuring a host of bands, with the well-established mixing with the completely unknown, the two-day event took place in 15 venues and featured household names like Travis, The Charlatans, The Damned and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club sharing the same stages with lesser-known artists such as I Was A Cub Scout, Fear Of Flying and Vincent Vincent and the Villains.

WorxAudio SR System Plays the Granada Theater

DALLAS, TX — The Granada Theater recently installed a substantial SR system that features the WorxAudio TrueLine Series line array. The two suspended line arrays, each consisting of eight TrueLine V8 two-way, compact line array elements, flank each side of the venue’s performance stage and are accompanied by a subwoofer system consisting of 14 enclosures formed by a combination of TrueLine TL215SS and WaveSeries 218S sub bass loudspeaker systems. Vertically aligned with the flown line arrays, each side of the stage has four 218S subs, with three TL215SS enclosures on top.

Second Baptist Church Hits All Four Corners with Meyer Sound

HOUSTON, TX — The Second Baptist Church in Houston, Texas, has renovated its West Campus, doubling its existing size. The new 4,500-seat worship center’s design somewhat resembles a plus sign, with the stage in the center and 360-degree seating tapering out to four quadrants. Atlanta-based performance engineering firm Clark ProMedia is the supplier of the new specialized sound system, which incorporates Meyer Sound’s M1D compact curvilinear array loudspeaker.

SIA Acoustics and Audio Analysts Partner with JBL for New Concert Venue

LAS VEGAS —The Pearl concert theater at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas recently opened with a performance by Gwen Stefani on April 21. SIA Acoustics designed the acoustics and sound system for the 2,500-seat arena; Audio Analysts installed the system, using the VerTec DP Series powered line arrays. FOH will take you inside the whole install in the June issue, until then here's a little info on the gear.
