ASHLAND, KY — Newtech Systems has been busy upgrading sound systems for schools, churches and community theaters in Eastern Kentucky and West Virginia, and Newtech’s Bill Banfield has relied upon EAW gear supplied by North Coast Marketing (Erie, Penn.) for a diverse array of projects.

EASTON, MD — After opening with silent films and vaudeville acts in the 1920s, the 400-seat Avalon Theatre on Maryland’s Eastern Shore went into a period of decline before being purchased and refurbished by the town of Easton. It is now equipped with a sound system featuring Bag End speakers and processors.

OAKLAND, CA — In a re-emergence that might even impress a 17-year cicada, Oakland’s Fox Theater has once again reopened after a 43-year hibernation. The venue underwent repairs and restoration costing $75 million, which brought the 2,800-capacity venue back to its former opulence.

PUYALLUP, WA —The Seattle location for Guitar Center Professional (GC Pro) has helped Foursquare Church update its audio and video systems, enabling members of the U.S. military and others benefit from its services, which are available as audio and video podcasts linked via the church Web site, p4square.com.

LOS ANGELES, CA — The Boxmasters (Billy Bob Thornton, J.D. Andrew and Mike Butler) are supporting their latest album, Modbilly, with shows at several House of Blues locations, South By Southwest, and a recent run through Canada, Connecticut, and Massachusetts with Willie Nelson and Ray Price.

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO — Radiant Church recently purchased two Allen & Heath digital mixing systems — an iLive to upgrade the existing mixing console in its main campus and an iLive-T system for a new satellite location.

NORTHRIDGE, CA — Rock the Bike, a designer and manufacturer of bicycles with an eye on raising the awareness of the “bike culture,” has used JBL PRX loudspeakers at several of its live music events, which are run on human power generated on bicycles.  

NEW YORK —  Scharff Weisberg Inc. (SWI) provided Overland Entertainment Co. with audio support for the second Veuve Cliquot Manhattan Polo Classic on Governors Island, which saw Prince Harry, on his first official visit to the U.S., leading his team to victory.  The event raised funds for the American Friends of Sentebale, a charity Prince Harry co-founded in 2006. 

NEW YORK — City Winery, a 21,000-square-foot combination of winemaking, gourmet dining and live music in New York’s SoHo neighborhood, is equipped with a M’elodie line array loudspeaker system from Meyer Sound.

MORGAN HILL, CA — The 30th annual Morgan Hill Mushroom Mardi Gras continued to grow, like, well, you know, with an estimated 70,000 attendees overall, and upwards of 3,000 of them gathering at the Morgan Hill amphitheater to feel the beat from an ISP Technologies Tripower Reference concert series speaker system provided by 4 dB Sound.

SAN FRANCISCO — The Herbst Theatre, a 919-seat recital hall in San Francisco’s War Memorial Veterans Building, has a new sound system to go with the beaux-arts murals and décor that reflects its history. The venue first opened in 1932.
