CHICAGO – The Chicago Shakespeare Theater replaced its sound system with a Meyer Sound M1D line array. Designed to meet specific architectural challenges, the system is comprised of a center cluster of eight M1D loudspeakers that covers the main center section of the house in three zones, while side arrays of five M1D loudspeakers each are arranged in three zones to manage the extreme vertical coverage.

TEMPE, AZ – The Tempe campus of Sun Valley Community Church recently installed a Martin Audio MLA Compact loudspeaker system as a key component in a significant upgrade of its technical capabilities. The system consists of nine MLA Compact enclosures per side in left-right hangs with seven Martin Audio DSX subs in bunkers arranged in arc formation along the downstage edge. Two WT3 speakers for extreme left and right outfill and six DD6 speakers for front fill complete the system with Martin Audio MA3.0 and MA2.8Q amplifiers and a Merlin Processor that manages the outfills and front fills, as well as communications between the speakers. The rest of the setup currently includes a Soundcraft MH2 40-channel Desk at FOH Sennheiser Evolution Series wireless and DPA microphones.

SAN DIEGO – Bell Events Services supplied both al-4 and al-8 line array systems from VUE Audiotechnik for this year’s Fiesta Hermosa Arts & Crafts Festival in Hermosa Beach. The Charity Beer & Wine Garden stage featured dual al-4 arrays consisting of four elements per side stacked atop dual VUE hs-28 powered subwoofers. Power and processing for the al-4 arrays came courtesy of a single VUE V4 Systems Engine. A selection of VUE a-Class two-way systems served monitor duty, while an APB Dynasonics Spectra console handled the mix. At the main stage, the Bell Events team flew dual al-8 arrays of four elements each. Four VUE as-418 quad 18-inch subwoofers filled out the low end, while four VUE V6 Systems Engines handled all power and processing for the arrays and subs. A selection of VUE a-Class systems served as monitors, with VUE h-12 systems as front fill and an Allen & Heath iLive console at the FOH position.

KANSAS CITY, Missouri — Seating nearly 8,000 patrons, Starlight Theatre has been a staple of Kansas City’s performing arts community since it first opened in 1950. As to be expected, Starlight has been through a few sound systems in its time, with the last one holding out for 14 years. The new L-ACOUSTICS KARA Modular WST line source sound system provides the intelligibility needed for theatrical dialog with the full-range frequency response necessary for music.

AUSTIN, TX – Nomad Sound of Austin, Texas recently purchased a new NEXO STM line array and Yamaha CL1, 3, 5 digital audio consoles to complement their rental arsenal. Since 2005, Nomad Sound has been supplying regional music festivals and several touring clients with world-class equipment along with very experienced technicians. The sound company recently had the opportunity to support a Willie Nelson show followed by Psychfest, both in Austin, multiple festivals, and South by Southwest, putting the STM to successful, but rigorous tests.

COLUMBUS, OH — Bartha, based here, recently purchased a Meyer Sound LYON linear sound reinforcement system for its rental inventory. Bartha opted for LYON based on its promise as a powerful tool to optimize audio quality for corporate events in convention centers and arenas as well as indoor and outdoor music concerts.

NASHVILLE — For Luke Bryan’s “That’s My Kinda Night” Tour, now on its second leg for 2014, the audio crew has been relying upon Kelly SHU microphone shock-mount systems to provide both in-transit and operational support while offering  additional  isolation for the mics used to amplify drummer Kent Slucher’s kick drums.
