SYDNEY — For the Australian touring production of South Pacific, Norwest Productions’ Adrian Riddell sought to fulfill the preferences of its award-winning sound designer, Scott Lehrer for a natural, un-amplified sound. Instead of simply opting against the use of mics, amps and speakers, Norwest has a sophisticated setup for spatial audio reinforcement that includes four separate vocal zones on stage.

LONDON — In August, the Caffè Nero Artist of the Month was pop songwriter Jamie Abbott, who has traveled and performed all around the U.K., performing in as many as three locations per day. Accompanying him on the tour of Caffè Nero locations in August was bassist Tom Kenrick and K-array’s Blueline KB1, which proved well-suited for the duo’s on-the-go performance schedule.

DORNACH, Switzerland — The Goetheanum, based here, is the global headquarters for Anthroposophy, a philosophy founded by Rudolf Steiner. Named after Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, the original structure was designed by Steiner himself. Now featuring two performance halls with a total seating capacity near 1,500, the Goetheanum’s audio setup also now includes Allen & Heath iLive systems.

VILLINGEN-SCHWENNINGEN, Germany —Gear from ProAudio Technology, based here, supported a variety of different events during the 2012 summer concert season, with music genres ranging from pop to classical, techno and hip hop.

CARHAIX, France — The four-day Les Vieilles Charrues, one of France’s largest festivals, drew a crowd of 244,000 with headliners including Bob Dylan, Sting, The Cure, Garbage, Portishead, LMFAO, Kasabian and France-based artists including Thomas Dutronc, Zebda, Orelsan, Amadou et Mariam, among others. Audiolite’s gear for the event’s main stage included E15 loudspeakers from Adamson Systems Engineering.

BUDANG, South Korea — The Global Mission Church, (Jiguchon), based here, offers worshippers 14 services every Sunday, additional worship services on Wednesday and the main church and satellite campuses host a variety of other gatherings during the week. The church leadership opted for a DiGiCo SD7 console with an EX-007 expander to handle its unique array of audio mixing needs.

SCANZANO JONICO, Italy — Officials from Italy’s Basilicata Region hired International Sound in late June to amplify the words of the Dalai Lama for an event here that drew some 12,000 people. Franco Firulli of International Sound provided a K-array sound system to cover a 7,000-square-meter area.

SINGAPORE — On Aug. 29 and 30, Adamson and Team 108, Adamson’s exclusive distribution for Southeast Asia, held a two-day Asia Pacific Energia seminar and demo here. Locally-based Team 108  handled  all the logistics for the event,  which drew attendees from Malaysia, China, Indonesia, Korea, Taiwan, Philippines, and Australia.  Additional Energia Seminars will be announced in September and October.

LONDON — John Meyer, who founded Meyer Sound Laboratories in 1979 with his wife Helen, was named winner of the 2012 Gottelier Award, named for the late Tony Gottelier, one of the entertainment industry’s most influential designers, innovators and commentators. Meyer was also the recipient of the first Parnelli Audio Innovator award in 2004.
