Opening, Closing Ceremonies in London Rely on Shure Wireless

LONDON — Shure’s new Axient wireless microphones were widely used by a galaxy of headline stars at the Opening and Closing Ceremonies during London’s sporting summer. Working together with the UK-based company Delta Sound, Antipodean audio systems supply specialists Norwest favored Shure from early on in the systems design process for the event. The games this summer marked Axient’s debut at an Olympic Ceremony.

“Idol Puerto Rico” Auditions Yamaha CL5 Console for its Second Season

CAGUAS, Puerto Rico — Idol Puerto Rico, the Caribbean island’s version of American Idol in the U.S. and Pop Idol in the U.K., is now in its second season, now accompanied by another extension of the franchise, Idol Kids Puerto Rico. Ricky’s Audio Corporation of Arecibo, PR handles audio production for the show, and has supplied a new Yamaha CL5 digital audio system for the live mix to direct TV audio feed.

Australian Orchestra Performing with British Ballet Company Heard via DPA Mics

SYDNEY — Owen Ironside, sound designer and production engineer at the 500-seat Theatre at The Concourse here, used DPA Microphones from DPA’s Australian distributor, Amber Technologies for a series of 14 sold-out shows pairing the English National Ballet and Australia’s Willoughby Symphony Orchestra. The series was part of this year’s Diamond Jubilee festivities marking the Queen of England’s 60th year on the throne.

New Sports Complex in the Philippines Installs Adamson SpekTrix

MANILA — To celebrate 400 years, the University of Santo Tomas here constructed a sports complex that includes a 54,000-square-foot, 5,792-capacity gymnasium. Crystal Audio installed Adamson’s SpekTrix line arrays — the gear’s debut in the island nation. After testing, installers found that the compact units were powerful enough to change the speaker-to-subwoofer element count in the six main hangs from 6:1 to 4:1. Four supplementary trapezoidal fill boxes were used for the center of the court.
