G20 Concert ‘Enduring Memories of Hangzhou’ Debuts with Community

CHINA – An “Enduring Memories of Hangzhou” concert entertained G20 Summit leaders and later debuted for the public. The gala features a stage platform which lies centimeters below the West Lake’s surface, giving the appearance that the orchestra and actors are performing on top of the water’s surface. The entire stage covered an area of 8,000 square meters and was divided into three main performance zones spaced significantly apart, which posed a great challenge for the monitor system setup. Community R-Series loudspeakers were specified for their sonic quality and weather-resistant features for the stage setting.

DPA Microphones Travel with Silk Road and Yo-Yo Ma

NEW YORK – DPA Microphones recently journeyed around the world with The Silk Road Ensemble with Yo-Yo Ma. Audio Engineer/Designer Jody Elff chooses DPA as his go-to mics for a vareity of reasons. “One of the greatest advantages of DPA mics, aside from their fidelity, is that they are nearly invisible from the audience’s point of view,” adds Elff. “This allows the audience to enjoy the music rather than be distracted by the technology, and frees the artist from feeling ‘trapped’ by a physical relationship to a microphone on a stand. For a live performance situation this is enormously liberating.”

The graphic user interface for the Waves Primary Source Expander (PSE) plugin.

Waves Audio Primary Source Expander

Now shipping, the Waves Primary Source Expander (PSE) plug-in for live sound lets users reduce stage bleed and sensitivity to feedback when a mic is idle by automatically lowering mic levels between musical phrases. At the heart of the plug-in is a precision expander, tailored for melodic sources such as vocals, guitars, strings, brass, woodwinds and more. PSE works like a fader that smoothly attenuates the channel’s level when the source goes below the threshold that’s been set. The user determines both the threshold and the amount of attenuation. Reducing stage noise leakage when microphones are idle will help users get an overall mix that is more coherent, more focused and has better phase relations.
