FLAGSTAFF, AZ – When the Covid-19 pandemic first swept across the nation last year, Flagstaff’s Orpheum Theater had no choice but to close its doors to the public. For audio production manager Scotty J., this meant not being able to showcase the venue’s new EAW KF810P P.A. system. With some restrictions easing, the venue, which had been used for about two dozen livestream events, is now able to impress audiences with the new P.A. system’s sound quality.

NAB and AES Cancel Oct. 2021 In-Person Gatherings in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS – Shortly after NAB canceled its Oct. 2021 convention in Las Vegas due to Covid, AES followed suit. Although AES canceled in-person events, the AES Fall Online program will proceed, with virtual activities taking place from Oct. 16-31, including a technical program running from Oct. 20-23. The 2022 NAB Show, meanwhile, is set for April 23-27 in Las Vegas.

In Memoriam: Bob Williams, 60

GREENFIELD, IN – Bob Williams, who purchased Mid-America Sound from founder Kerry Darrenkamp with partner Jason Wells in 2016 and had been serving as its CEO, died Sept. 17. He was 60. Both Williams and Wells had worked as employees at Mid-America Sound for more than 25 years before buying the lighting and sound company from Darrenkamp, who had co-founded the company with Rob King in 1975.
