BIRMINGHAM, AL – After an 18 year hiatus, Alabama’s famed heavy rock and metal Furnace Fest returned in a big way Sept. 24-26. Held at Birmingham’s Sloss Furnaces, 90 bands performed on three stages. Putting the decibel meter to the test this year were key acts such as August Burns Red, ERRA, Fit for a King, Mayday Parade, Motionless in White, and Underøath – all sporting an Allen & Heath console at FOH.

In Memoriam: Louis “Louie” Procaccino, 68

SAN DIEGO – Louis “Louie” Procaccino, a production manager who was dubbed the “MacGyver” of the local live music scene by the San Diego Union-Tribune for his ability to make things happen, died Sept. 9 at age 68. “Everybody who passed through San Diego on tour from 1975 on dealt with Louie,” noted production manager Kent Black. “He was quite the local character — like Steve Gudis was in Nashville.”
