I recently visited the shop of a major sound company where an entire room of top-shelf rider-friendly analog outboard equipment was collecting dust because most mixing now occurs “inside the box” of digital consoles on tours, in venues and at festivals, eliminating outboard gates, compressors, and, to a lesser degree, EQ and effects.

Britannia Row Supports Will Young U.K. Tour with Outline Gear

LONDON — Britannia Row Productions supported British singer-songwriter Will Young’s recent Echoes U.K. tour with a main system including an 18 per-side configuration of Butterfly CDH 483 enclosures, with two Mantas 120-degree cabinets underhung as downfills. A dozen Outline Subtech dual 18” subwoofers provided low-frequency reinforcement and the whole system was driven by Outline T Series amplifiers.

Altinex Announces AVSnap Webinar Series

BREA, CA – Altinex is launching a free webinar training program on its AVSnap AV system design/control software, coinciding with the release of AVSnap Version 5. The seminar series starts Friday, Jan. 13, and continues on Fridays for 12 weeks, through March 30. Each session, led by Jack Gershfeld, author of AVSnap and President and CEO of Altinex, will last about an hour.

Eighth Day Sound Gets Assist from PWS Domed Helical Antenna

CHICAGO — Eighth Day Sound director of touring services Owen Orzack was already planning to use Professional Wireless Systems’ Helical Antennas for Lollapalooza at Chicago’s Grant Park last summer. PWS, meanwhile, was putting the finishing touches on its new Domed Helical Antennas. Acting on the recommendation from PWS GM Jim Van Winkle, Orzack gave them a shot, and Eighth Day Sound has since included them on tour with The Fray. The domed units, now available for sale, were also put into service at the Austin City Limits Festival in September.

Kaltman Creations IWxANT Amplified Directional Antenna

Kaltman Creations’ paddle-shaped IWxANT Amplified Directional Antenna, for use with Invisible Waves IWx systems for amplified, directional RF analysis, promises 10 dB of additional gain through a calibrated onboard analyzer. The inherent directional characteristics of the LOG Periodic antenna allow for directional analysis while excluding background RF. The IWxANT features a bias “T” power injector with DC blocker (SMA connections); 12V power supply (for applications other than with IWx); a BNC to SMA adaptor, an SMA to SMA jumper and microphone stand mount. Specs include 450MHz to 870MHz frequency range, with usable gain up to 950MHz; 50 Ohms impedance, close to a 100-degree beam pattern; 3dB or 10dB gain select options and a BNC connection (BNC cable not included).
