I try not to take gigs in Vegas. Long story — but there is a bag of cash, a couple of wiseguys a stripper and a broken down XL4 involved. If I told you they would have to take me out of witness protection, so there you go. Anyway, through a string of dubious events, I found myself working a freelance gig in Vegas. The gig was designed to help bring people in for a much larger event. It seems to me that if you need small events to "spruce up" the larger event then more than likely the main deal needs to be re thought — That's a whole other thing — Anyway, my job was production manager for the live concert portion of this "big event".

Getting to the Gig

Bill Evans has told me that I can Blog for FOH Online. I’ve never Blogged before (is that a word), but Bill tells me I can write about anything related to our business. How’s about getting to the gig? If anyone ever tells you that you’re lucky because you travel to so many exciting places, hit them over the head with an Atlas mic stand and let them read this. The gig is often easy. It’s the commute that kills us.

Heydekampf Leaves Bosch/Telex

LAS VEGAS — Telex Pro Audio Group President Matthias von Heydekampf has resigned from Telex’s new parent company, Bosch. In a coversation with FOH on Friday, April 20 Heydekampf cited personal reasons for leaving, and said he was still very pleased with the direction Bosch was taking Telex, now Bosch Communications Systems.

d&b audiotechnik US Relocates

ASHEVILLE, NC — In a planned development predicated on a mix of feed and need, d&b audiotechnik US has recently moved premises to Asheville, NC. L-ACOUSTICS 8XT Coaxial Loudspeakers

OXNARD, CA — The new 8XT and 12XT from L-ACOUSTICS are single-point-source coaxial loudspeakers. The 8XT measures 16.6 inches H by 9.8 inches W by 10.6 inches D and weighs 24.2 lbs. Operating on a frequency bandwidth of 65 Hz to 20 kHz, this response can be lowered to 32 Hz with the addition of the SB118 subwoofer.
