NEW ORLEANS — Wind and rain from Hurricane Isaac forced a wave of concert cancellations in late August and over Labor Day weekend as remnants of the storm moved inland. Although 2012 wasn’t the worst year on record for named storms from the Atlantic — thanks partly to better infrastructure, Isaac wasn’t nearly as costly as Katrina in 2005 — freakish weather has cancelled a number of events this summer.

ROWVILLE, Victoria, Australia — After the 2010 merger of Allans Music and Billy Hyde Music, Australia Music Group Holdings (AMG)-owned Allans Billy Hyde had a reported $110 million in sales and 25 percent share of market. But on Aug. 23, 2012, the merged company, which can trace its lineage back to 1850, was placed into receivership by administrators for a group of investors owed a reported $27 million. At the time, there were 25 company-owned shops and four more franchised locations, with close to 500 employees.

LONDON — Adlib and Sound Image are supporting the world tour for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers with L-Acoustics gear specified by FOH engineer Robert Scovill. The typical setup has L-R arrays of 14 K1 plus three KARA downfills per side, each paired with an adjacent hang of eight K1-SB subs. A center array of 12 KUDO was flown between the K1s for true LCR reinforcement, with up to 40 additional KUDO deployed as auxiliary arrays to expand horizontal coverage to the 270-degree mark and beyond.

IOLA, KS — Tasked with a sound system upgrade for the 750-seat Bowlus Fine Arts and Cultural Center here, MSM Systems provided a Yamaha M7CL-48 digital audio console, two Yamaha P3500 amps, 10 NEXO GEO S12 line array cabinets (five per side), two NEXO RS18 Ray Subs (located in the pit), two NEXO PS8s (used for front fills), JBL SRX721M monitors and a Clearcom Intercom system. Two NEXO 4×4 NXAmps were also installed to power the system.
