HENDERSON, NV — Monitor engineer Brian Hendry, 67, who had a long and distinguished career working for artists ranging from Barry Manilow to Ozzy Osbourne, passed away peacefully at home on Feb. 14, 2020, surrounded by family, after a long battle with polycystic kidney disease. Hendry was the recipient of a Parnelli Award for Monitor Mixer of the Year in 2002.
A native of Scotland, Hendry attended the Stow College of Engineering in Glasgow and later immigrated to the United States where he became an American citizen. A highly experienced monitor engineer for many “A” list artists, his many clients over the years included Alanis Morissette, Barry Manilow, Black Sabbath, Cher, Dio, The Eagles, Foreigner, Jennifer Hudson, Joe Walsh, Lenny Kravitz, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Ozzy Osbourne, Page & Plant, Stevie Nicks, Tom Petty and many others.
Hendry loved fishing and often packed a rod and reel in his work case to take advantage of his special gift for uncovering fishing spots near the many venues he visited. One of his oft-spoken catch phrases was “leave me a path,” referring to the need to provide easy access for rolling cases, especially on the cluttered stage floors that typically surround the monitor mix position. In addition to his formidable technical and creative skills, Hendry’s easy-going personality made him an ideal choice for the sometimes-difficult task of monitor mixing.
Brian Hendry was well-liked among both fellow crew members and artists alike. He is survived by his wife, photographer Jann Hendry; daughter Josephine; daughter Jamie and son-in-law Ryan Greek and granddaughter Luella Greek; daughter Jacqueline Jean and son-in-law Fred Rubenstein; siblings Jim and Karen Hendry; and beloved dog, Jake. He will be missed by his many friends and colleagues throughout the industry.
