Tour Notes
Performing on his own, with nothing more than an acoustic guitar and a custom loop pedal, Ed Sheeran’s ÷ (“Divide”) Tour topped U2’s 360 as the top money-making tour of all time, setting records for both gross revenues ($776 million) and total attendance (8.8 million). The 258-show run included 14 tour legs from mid-March, 2017 to August 2019, scoring #4 (2017), #1 (2018) and #1 (2019) on Billboard’s year-end charts.

Tour Notes
Pink’s Beautiful Trauma tour ran from March 1, 2018 to Nov. 2, 2019, grossing $397 million from more than 3.1 million tickets sold for 159 shows. The tour climbed to the #2 spot on Billboard’s top tour chart for 2019, up rom #5 in 2018. The concert is a showcase for the singer’s athleticism as well as her vocal prowess as Pink flies above the stage for some numbers and joins in with her dancers for others.

BTS, which formed in 2013 as a seven-member K-pop and hip-hop boy band, launched their 2018/2019 “Love Yourself/Speak Yourself” world tour in Seoul Olympic Stadium in late August, 2018 before performing at large venues North America and Europe in late 2018, then packing stadiums around the world. The group, which performs its songs and rap numbers in Korean, emerged at #3 on Billboard’s Nov. 1-Oct. 31 charts with $196 million in ticket sales and 1.6 million fans attending 42 shows. (The band’s 14-month tour included 62 shows in all.)

Tour Notes
Elton John is on his “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour. This artist has sold more than 300 million records in his 50-year career and has been showered with accolades — Grammy Awards, BRIT Awards, an Academy and Tony Award, and even a British knighthood since 1998. The tour, which launched Sept. 8, 2018, is traveling to five continents and will continue through 2020 with at least 270 shows on the schedule and the chance for 300 or more if the tour extends into 2021.

After rocking Europe with show legs that ran from Sept. 9-Oct. 25, 2017 and May 17-July 8, 2018, the Stones brought their “No Filter” trek to the States in 2019, scoring the #5 spot on Billboard’s Top Tours chart with just 16 shows. While a fraction of the gigs staged by other top acts, the Stones pulled in more than 784,000 fans for the shows, which grossed a whopping $178 million for Billboard’s Nov. 1-Oct. 31 tally.

The 16-leg, 178-show “WorldWired” tour has been touring, off and on, since Feb. 2016, with soundcos UltraSound, Denmark-based Victory Event Stage & Tour and PRG/VER all providing gear for the shows. Meyer Sound also provided a big assist for the two S&M shows opening San Francisco’s Chase Center in September. Bob McCarthy, David Vincent and James Edmondson helped design a 250-box setup for Metallica and the San Francisco Symphony, with an outer ring of 10 arrays in five stereo pairs of Lyon-M, Lyon-W and Leopard components. UPJuniors ringing the stage and 1100-LFC handled the low end, along with system optimization via Galileo Galaxy processing. UltraSound supported the symphony, led by conductor Edwin Outwater, with a massive mic package along with Avid Profile and Yamaha CL5 consoles. The multi-year, multi-continent “WorldWired” tour picks up again in 2020, with a series of shows planned for South America this spring followed by a final series of festival gigs North America this summer and fall.

The “End of the Road” world tour kicked off with a U.S./Canada/Mexico leg that ran from Jan. 31-May 3, followed by legs in Europe (May 27-July 16), North America (Aug. 6-Sept. 12) and Asia (Dec. 8-19).
