“Whether as an employee or a member of WAVE, Theresa has a ceaseless energy to serve others through her quiet yet confident leadership,” explained Thomas Berry, Jr., President & CEO of Verrex. “I take great pleasure in giving employees the opportunity to participate in such industry organizations as WAVE. It is a chance to blossom among so many talented folks. Theresa gets involved and encourages others to make the time and effort, understanding the long-term benefits for women in the industry. You can’t teach that kind of leadership.”

WAVE is grateful to Listen Technologies for sponsoring this important industry award for the third year in a row and greatly appreciates their ongoing efforts and support to encourage the development of the WAVE organization.

“We are delighted to recognize Theresa with this award for all the mentoring that she has done within our industry,” said Cory Schaeffer, Co-Founder & Vice President of Business Development Worldwide at Listen Technologies.  “She is an achiever and an example of how rewarding it is to support and uplift others.  She has given selflessly so much, and I love that she is being recognized for it with this 2014 award.  It’s nice to put a spotlight on her and all of her efforts.”

“I am sincerely grateful that an organization like Women in AV exists, and that it thrives on core tenets of mentoring and goodwill,” said Hahn. “I have met so many brilliant and dedicated women and men through WAVE; I am humbled to receive the 2014 Mentor Award. Leaders like Tom, Cory and so many others, who recognize the value of providing women with encouragement, inspiration, and the opportunity to grow through WAVE as well as their own organizations, strengthen our industry as a whole.”

Listen Technologies’ Cory Schaeffer Honored with InfoComm Women in AV Award

BLUFFDALE, UT — Listen Technologies Corporation, a leading designer, manufacturer and distributor of assistive listening products, is proud to announce that Cory Schaeffer, Listen Co-Founder & Vice President of Business Development Worldwide, has been honored with a Women in AV Award by InfoComm International, the leading professional audiovisual trade association. The award was presented at InfoComm 2014, which took place June 14-20 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV. Schaeffer received her award alongside fellow honoree Jan Sandri, founding member of FSR, a well-known manufacturer of a wide variety of products for the AV industry.

Schaeffer stated, “It’s great to be recognized by InfoComm International with this prestigious award. I am proud of what I have been able to accomplish, and I believe that this award will help in my main goal: to raise awareness about the disability of hearing loss. And being acknowledged alongside Jan Sandri, whom I respect and admire, made the honor even more meaningful.”

In 1998, Schaeffer co-founded Listen Technologies. In 2011, Listen Technologies was named the most recognizable brand of assistive listening system in North America. Listen products are now sold worldwide in more than 30 countries.

Schaeffer’s talents in the AV industry extend beyond sales and business development. She holds two patents for her contributions to the ListenPoint product line. In addition, Cory played a key role in establishing partnerships with Ampetronic, the global leader in hearing loop systems, and Televic Conferencing.

Schaeffer is deeply committed to shining a spotlight on what she calls the invisible disability of hearing loss. She has been involved in supporting the HLAA Utah Walk4Hearing. She is a thought leader within the AV industry, building awareness about hearing loss, the ADA standards, and hearing loss prevention. She contributes regularly to the InfoComm International’s “All Voices” blog.

In Utah, Schaeffer leads the effort to build awareness for the AV industry. For the past six years she has successfully lobbied Utah’s governor, the mayors of Salt Lake County and Park City, and the Bluffdale City Council to proclaim one week every October as AV Week. During AV Week, Schaeffer organizes community activities to highlight the AV industry, including tours of AV systems in the Capitol Theater, the Utah State Capitol, Rio Tinto Stadium, Adobe and the Hale Theater. She has also spearheaded fundraising efforts to purchase AV equipment for a Utah school.

Schaeffer is motivated by creating and selling products that change lives, whether it is helping the hearing-impaired participate in church services or a student hear instructions in the classroom. This has taken her to the top of her profession: the industry recognized Cory’s impact on AV technology by electing her to the Board of Directors for InfoComm International to serve a four-year term from 2009 to 2012.

The Women in AV Award was created by InfoComm to raise awareness of the growing role of female professionals in the male-dominated field of audiovisual technology. These award winners are in the upper echelon of AV professionals and symbolize the strength of entrepreneurship and excellence in developing tomorrow’s AV talent.

“Both Jan Sandri and Cory Schaeffer have demonstrated extraordinary levels of professional knowledge, while taking time to improve the industry and better the lives of others,” said David Labuskes, CTS, RCDD, Executive Director and CEO, InfoComm International. “InfoComm is pleased to celebrate Cory and Jan’s achievements.”
