QUINCY, WA — The 20,000-capacity Gorge Amphitheatre here, managed by Live Nation, was forced to cancel the show set for Sept. 28 featuring Maroon 5 and Kelly Clarkson due to “severe, unseasonable weather,” venue management noted on a Facebook posting, adding that it was the first weather-related cancellation at the venue in 27 years.

“The decision to cancel was made unanimously by representatives of the artists and promoter Live Nation, solely in the interest of audience, artist and crew safety,” the posting noted. “In 27 years of producing shows at The Gorge we had previously never cancelled a show due to weather.”

The posting also quoted Jeff Trisler, President of Live Nation Northwest and long-time promoter of The Gorge concert series; his comments follow.

“The decision to do so was not made lightly. It was only after careful deliberation with show production, artist management and venue management that this difficult decision was reached. The show was loaded in and the artists were on-site ready to perform. We all felt given the severe circumstance with the weather, cancellation was the lesser evil, rather than risking a serious injury to anybody at the venue.”

The posting noted that ticket holders would be able to receive a full refund by returning their tickets to the place of purchase, with further instructions available to those who bought them at the Gorge Amphitheatre box office.
