Radionorba’s Battiti Live Heard Via International Sound’s K-array Gear

LECCE, Italy — Radionorba’s Battiti Live drew audiences of up to 60,000 listeners to towns and cities along the “heel” of the boot-shaped Italian peninsula in late July and early August, including Lecce, Bari, Matera, Bisceglie and Manfredonia. International Sound, a rental company run by Paolo Firulli and his brothers, provided K-array gear, not just for sound quality, but to meet the touring event’s challenging logistics.

“The stage had a crazy design, and finding space for a conventional system would have been impossible,” Firulli said, adding that K-array also helped the crew meet tight setup deadlines. He also credited the K-array gear for meeting the need for “extremely high sound distribution power… obviously without jeopardizing quality.”

The K-array configuration started with two clusters comprised of four KH4s each, which was complemented by eight KS4s on each side, mounted at the wings of the stage. Four additional KO70 subwoofers were added for low-end enhancement. An additional three KH15s were used for front fills, covering the first few meters in front of the stage.

This year, International Sound also provided one KR402 on each side of the stage to provide uniform sound distribution on the stage for the musicians. (Each includes two vertical modules for medium-high frequencies and a 21-inch subwoofer for the low end.)

Audio engineer Klaus Hausherr, who attended the Lecce event, was also familiar with K-array gear, having learned of it via Exhibo, K-array’s Italian distributor.
