VIENNA, Austria – AKG, which was founded in Vienna in 1947 and became part of Harman in 1994, continues under the umbrella of Harman, which was acquired by Samsung earlier this year. But as Harman continues to pare back on its traditional operations, with a restructuring plan announced last month that will trim 650 jobs in the U.S. in Europe by mid-2018, a group of AKG employees opted to leave the conglomerate and start up a new Vienna-based audio company called Austrian Audio.

The new company is comprised of close to two dozen former AKG employees including 17 engineers and six management professionals, according to reports. On the company’s website, Austrian.audio, managing director Martin Seidl provided more details about the company.
