DIMMITT, TX – The congregation of the First Baptist Church is partial to the sanctuary's handcrafted walnut accents, and to the efforts undertaken by Troubadour Solutions and Bag End to get an exact match between the old wood trim and the appearance of the new Gem Series speakers being installed.
"Bag End was the only brand of speaker from the options we considered that offered natural wood cabinets," noted First Baptist's Worship Leader Barry Hazel, a process that entailed bringing in an experienced woodworker and setting up a staining booth to get the custom work done. "This allowed us the ability to stain the cabinets to match the wooden beams in our sanctuary," Hazel noted.

"We were able to match all of the Front of House elements to the existing wood trim," noted Troubadour Solutions' Dr. Scott Weaver, who led the project. The gear used included two Bag End Crystal time-align loudspeakers, one Bag End P-D18E-AD very high output self-powered INFRA subwoofer system and two Bag End TA6000-I compact speech range loudspeakers.
The new sound system has drawn a positive response from the congregation, and Troubadour Solutions installation team member Steve Weatherford, who is also an experienced gospel performer, noted, "This is one of the top five sound systems I have ever heard, including some involving much larger budgets."
Along with the Bag End speakers, FBT monitors and QSC amplifiers, Weaver specified an Allen & Heath 48-channel ML 3000 mixing board for the sound system, calling that mixing board "very user-friendly and easy to operate. We prefer it for churches, where there usually aren't trained engineers to handle the mixing."
