FOXBORO, MA — American rock band, Taking Back Sunday (TBS), and their FOH engineer, Marc Jacob Hudson, have been relying upon Sennheiser evolution 900 series microphones and Sennheiser ew 300 IEM G2 wireless personal monitors for the band’s recent tour with blink-182. The live performances of songs from Taking Back Sunday’s recent album, New Again and their previous release, Louder Now, are engaging audiences with their emotion and hooks, and Hudson credited the mics for helping convey the music to the crowd.
“Sennheiser’s evolution 900 series has a solid high-end sound that’s consistent across the entire line,” Hudson said. “There’s not a loser in the bunch. The mics work well together sonically, and nowhere is that more apparent than on the drums.”
Hudson uses the Sennheiser e 901 condenser and e 902 dynamic for Mark O’Connell’s kick drum. Sennheiser e 904s round things out up top, while a pair of Neumann KM 184s are used for the cymbals and hats.
Hudson is also using Sennheiser e 906 and e 609 super-cardioid dynamic mics for Fazzi’s Orange Rocker 30 amp/Marshall cab. For guitarist Eddie Reyes’ Bad Cat Lynx and additional amps Hudson is using a triad of Sennheiser e 906s, the palindromic complement to the e 609. Backing vocalists Fazzi and Rubano use Sennheiser e 935s. The cardioid e 935 provide more than adeqate rejection, off-axis response, and sound qualit, helping the vocals ride at the forefront of the mix.
“Everyone in the band uses ew 300 IEM G2s for wireless personal monitors,” Hudson said. “I like the frequency flexibility and reliability, in fact we recently switched to a new frequency to meet the current federal guidelines.” In addition to all five members of the band, techs use the Sennheiser wireless monitors to keep on top of the set.
