SACRAMENTO, CA — Slipknot unleashed their metal power on the recent “All Hope is Gone Tour” using a Meyer Sound MILO® line array loudspeaker system. The self-powered Meyer Sound system was capable of handling band’s music and the high SPL during the shows, and it also helped offset the high costs of touring during Slipknot’s 36-city marathon.
The touring system was comprised of left and right arrays of 16 MILO line array loudspeakers, with 10 MICA™ line array loudspeakers for side hangs. Low-end duties were manned by six 700-HP subwoofers flown per side. Foldback was handled by 18 MJF-212A stage monitors, with four 700-HP subwoofers and five MICA line array loudspeakers at stage left and right for the monitor sidefills. Dave "Shirt" Nicholls, a veteran engineer who has previously toured with Marilyn Manson, was charged with FOH mixing duties.
“I think the distinctive thing about this band is we have so much percussion,” said Gary Garner, production manager. “We have a world-class drummer in Joey, with his massive kit, plus two more percussionists stage left and right. It definitely can get a bit drum-heavy, and we need a system that can cope with it. So we’re very lucky on this tour to be able to work with the support of Thunder Audio and a quality product like Meyer Sound.”
“Truck space savings equate to real money, because it’s not cheap to tour anymore,” says Garner. “Plus it’s a quality system with great sub-bass, so I’m a supporter of the system in its entirety.”
Meyer Sound products have seen some favor in rock music circles says Paul Owen, Thunder Audio’s vice president and two decade-plus audio engineer. “It’s nice to see so many heavy rock bands now using Meyer,” says Owen. “In the past it was looked at as a much ‘softer’ system, but it’s refreshing to see the energy of the MILO yet again prevail for a heavy-hitting act like Slipknot.”
