ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — Resorts International Casino Hotel is located at the northern end of the famed Boardwalk in Atlantic City, N.J., along with eight other of Atlantic City's 12 casinos. Recently, the property’s Superstar Theater upgraded its front-of-house position with a Yamaha PM1D digital audio console installed by ACIR Professional in Egg Harbor Township, N.J. The 1,350-seat, 17,500-square-foot entertainment venue features headliners like Jerry Seinfeld, Whoopi Goldberg, Tom Jones, Don Rickles, Snoop Dogg, Aaron Lewis and Chris Isaak, to name a few.
Of course, we wanted to replace an aging analog console, and the Yamaha PM1D was chosen for a variety of reasons,” states Clint Pease, lead audio engineer for the Superstar Theater. “Reliability was a big factor especially since Yamaha has the most experience building digital consoles. I still use an older Yamaha O3D console for recording, playback, sub-mixing etc. We get a lot of visiting engineers in the Superstar Theatre and it's reasonable to expect that many wouldn't be familiar with all the digital consoles available. With the PM1D, I can display and organize 48 inputs on the console’s top layer, which is helpful in building confidence when using the 1D.”
“It's been a wonderful asset for us,” says Pease. “We've been doing the Legends Show which has a comprehensive set up including a live band, click track and multi-track playback, in ear mixes and as many as 14 RF vocal mics. Many times, we've had to strike and reset the show overnight to accommodate a weekend headliner, which in the past was a tedious, labor-intensive task. Now, with our PM1D a lot of that work can be as simple as save and recall.”
Pease adds that the audio staff’s next goal is to get monitor engineer Bruce Raykiewicz a PM5D or possibly a CS1D on stage for monitors which he notes would give the Superstar’s system a solid infrastructure. “I've been doing live sound for 37 years and getting this new desk has really been exciting for me; I'm really enjoying my work again. The 1D is just fun to use!”
“The Superstar Theater is one of the most prestigious theaters in AC, and we are very happy that Clint decided the Yamaha PM1D was the right choice for the venue, states ACIR Professional co-owner John Grasso. “We will continue to support the staff at the Superstar by providing the right products and services to meet their future needs.”
