CANTON, OH — Audio Design Specialists worked with Tannoy to provide an audio system for Faith Family Church, which expanded into a location previously used for making Hoover vacuum cleaners. The new location, with a capacity of 4,000, features a loudspeaker system co-developed between Audio Design Specialists and Tannoy.

More details from Tannoy (www.tannoy.com):

Following two decades of rapid growth, Faith Family Church of Canton, OH needed a new facility, and a large one. After exploring several options, an opportunity developed to purchase the Hoover vacuum cleaner plant, following Hoover’s decision to move production to Mexico.  The plant covered 290,000 square feet, providing adequate space for a main auditorium, a chapel, a full sized gymnasium, a fellowship hall, numerous youth auditoriums, and multiple suites of offices.

Priority was given to the main auditorium. The factory floor was removed with the area excavated for sloped seating, and the roof was raised to allow for sufficient ceiling height with a full complement of catwalks. The nominal seating capacity is 4,000. The ceiling consists of a radial pattern of Venue Technologies steel clouds, supported by a radial grid of Venue Technologies catwalks.

Senior Pastor Michael Cameneti had very high standards for the acoustical and sound system designs.  He required the capacity for very high SPLs, but with the fidelity of the best studio monitors. Audio Design Specialists of Madison, WI acted as both the design consultant and the installing contractor. To meet Pastor Cameneti’s unique requirements, a special high performance loudspeaker system was co-developed between Audio Design Specialists and Tannoy, given the model number T-550.

(The T-550 incorporates the Tannoy 12″ SuperDual driver for the bulk of the spectrum, with a range of 125 Hz to an upper limit above 20 kHz. In order to avoid crossing over to the subwoofers while still in the vocal range, a high power 15″ driver is placed directly above the 12″ SuperDual to cover the range from 80 Hz to 125 Hz. The T-550s unique mounting method allows for simple 2-point suspension with inclination adjustment. The enclosure is all Baltic birch plywood, with a partition between drivers.  The compartment for the 15″ driver is tuned with large ducts to allow for extended bass response in systems without subwoofers.)

A total of 40 T-550 loudspeaker systems were used in 4 concentric stereo arcs, all suspended from the radial catwalk grid. Each T-550 was powered by 2 MC2 T1000ADS power amplifiers in the bridge mode, and separate digital processing, XTA DP series, was used for each arc. The T-550s are augmented by 8 custom subwoofers, 4 embedded in each side of the stage, also operating in stereo.

Tannoy loudspeaker systems are also used in the chapel, most of the youth auditoriums, as most of the stage monitors, and for studio monitors in the television control room.
