New Chapel at Perimeter Church Equipped with Danley Gear

ATLANTA – Cecil B. Day Chapel, a 475-seat vaulted-ceiling sanctuary of wood, stone, and stained glass, joined the other buildings on Perimeter Church's 95-acre campus recently. Named for the church benefactor who also founded Day's Inn, the chapel was equipped with Danley Sound Labs loudspeakers, subwoofers and stage monitors.
"This is the crown jewel of our campus," said Steve Simmons, director of technical ministries at Perimeter Church. For the chapel's sound system, he chose an LCR setup using two Danley SH-50s in each of three flown clusters. A single Danley SH-95 mounted below each cluster provides downfill.

Simmons, who worked with Norcross, GA-based Baker Audio, hoped to fly the system's two Danley TH-115 subwoofers directly behind the center cluster, but architectural constraints forced him to separate them slightly so that each subwoofer sits on an opposite side of the center cluster. He made use of the Danley gear's pattern control to compensate for the required positioning.

LynTec technology controls the power sequence for all of the chapel's sound reinforcement equipment. Three QSC CX1102, two QSC CX702, and two QSC CX902 amplifiers provide power for the entire system, including eight Danley floor monitors. "They're not turned up very much, and yet the chapel has abundant volume," Simmons noted.  A Biamp Nexia DSP provides modest input and output conditioning for the system.

For on-stage vocal monitoring to accompany the installed Aviom system, Simmons opted for eight Danley Sound Labs SH-VLPMs, crediting the gear for "a true 110-degree beam width," which kept the required box count to a minimum, yet still provides the choir and horn musicians with "a nice, consistent response" when they move around the stage.

Perimeter Church already had four Innovason digital consoles filling the key role in auditoriums across its campus, and the new chapel makes five. Simmons specified an Innovason SY48 with built-in effects card.

There is little doubt that the Danley gear will be put to memorable use – within weeks of opening, the new chapel had already been booked for 30 weddings.
