WOODINVILLE, WA — Marking 20 years since the introduction of its CR-1604, Mackie staged a 20 Years Running contest, and recently announced a winner: Badger Koon, whose YouTube video documents his return from vacation to find his Mackie SRM450 Active speakers almost completely submerged from a mudslide that inundated his house. “They were totally covered in nasty horse poop and mud,” Koon said. After shoveling everything out and hosing down the gear, he let the speakers dry, and said, “to this day, they sound good as new.” (He didn’t mention anything about how they smell, however.)
Along with the reclaimed speakers, Koon can count another silver lining to his ordeal: a pair of Mackie’s new HD1531 3-Way High Definition Powered Loudspeakers for his first-place contest entry. He also won a 1604-VLZ3 Compact Mixer, for a total prize value close to $4,000.
