More details from Rice University (www.rice.edu):

The Moody Center for the Arts opened in February 2017 on the campus of Rice University in Houston, Texas. The $30 million, 50,000 square-foot building is dedicated to interdisciplinary conversations through the arts, bridging gaps between scientific, engineering, and humanities disciplines by providing spaces to facilitate collaborative ventures. The Moody was recognized by the American Institute of Architects, California Council (AIACC) with an Honor Award, the most prestigious design award bestowed by the chapter.

In addition to exhibition, classroom, and maker space areas, the Moody contains a 150-seat black box theater that features intelligent LED and digital lighting fixtures from High End Systems, Elation, and ETC, controlled by a Road Hog 4 lighting console in conjunction with ETC Net3 and Paradigm systems.

The sound system uses a Dante system architecture for I/O and routing with Qsys core for DSP. A Yamaha CL1 mixes inputs from the Dante network and 16 channel RIO unit into a 5.1 surround sound speaker system using networked QSC amps and loudspeakers.

The small space is packed with video production tech utilizing HES DLHDs, Axon Media servers, Ross Carbonite Solo, TVone Corio master mini, as well as Blackmagic Design, and Crestron control systems.

Projection shines in this space with 3 12k lumen projectors from Panasonic and 3 High End Systems DLHD fixtures. The projectors can act in stand-alone modes or they can be collaged in various configurations to provide truly immersive environments using the video production suite previously mentioned.

The space is designed to be reconfigurable to suit each production or event with minimal changeover time. In addition, the seating can be rearranged or removed entirely.

This black box theater has the capability to polish a wide variety of events and productions. For more information, please contact Rob Blumrick, Production Manager, at [email protected].
