NEW YORK — Masque Sound noted that it has supported all four of the musical productions nominated for Tony Awards in this year’s “Best Musical” category: Once, with sound designer Clive Goodwin; Newsies, with sound designer Ken Travis; Leap of Faith, with sound designer John Shivers; and Nice Work if You Can Get It, with sound designer Brian Ronan.
“The four nominated musicals all have incredibly talented sound designers who are passionate about their craft,” said Stephanie Hansen, general manager, Masque Sound.
Along with sound gear, Masque Sound also provided frequency coordination for each of the nominated shows, each of which required close to 60 channels of wireless in New York’s crowded RF environment. (Some venues shared a wall with other theaters.)
Along with the potential recognition for their contribution to their respective productions as a whole, Once’s Goodwin and Nice Work’s Ronan are also in the running for individual “Best Sound Design of a Musical” Tony honors. The other sound designers up for that award include Acme Sound Partners for The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess and Kai Harada for Follies.
Tony nominees for Best Sound Design of a Play include Paul Arditti for One Man, Two Guvnors, Scott Lehrer for Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman, Gareth Owen for End of the Rainbow and Darron L. West for Peter and the Starcatcher.
The 2012 Tony Awards will be presented on June 10 at the Beacon Theatre in New York.
