NASHVILLE — Californian dubstep musician/producer Lorin Ashton, better known as Bassnectar, returned to Bridgestone Arena here for New Years 2013, packing the place with more than 11,000 “Bass Heads.” LMG Touring, which also supported the 2012 NYE gig at the same venue along with Bassnectar’s 32-date fall tour, provided an L-Acoustics K1 system, with 72 SB28 subs for low end support.

Abandoning last year’s end-stage setup for a new in-the-round design, Bassnectar’s main PA for the 2013 event was comprised of eight hangs of eight K1 enclosures, each with three-KARA downfills, flown in LR pairs around the arena’s massive central Jumbotron display.
To deliver the generous LF that one would expect from an artist named Bassnectar, LMG positioned 72 SB28 double-18-inch subs on end around the perimeter of the circular rotating stage and topped them with an evenly spaced total of 16 KUDO cabinets for front-fill.
On stage, the artist relied on four 115XT HiQ wedges for monitoring, which, like all other loudspeaker systems, were driven by L-Acoustics’ LA-RAK platform.
“Both Lorin and his sound engineer, Brendan Hoffman, are very passionate about creating shows to be a visceral experience,” says Craig Mitchell, national sales manager, LMG Touring. “They want everyone in the audience – from fans down front to those up in the nosebleed seats – to feel the energy and impact of the performance, as opposed to just hearing it. With our K1 System anchored by SB28 subs, they definitely delivered! The rig sounded absolutely massive with great definition, beautiful midrange, and a low end that thumped fans’ chests hundreds of feet away. Lorin and Brendan were extremely happy with how the show went and they’re already making plans to do it again next year.”
