SAN FRANCISCO — Sprawled out across the space of 20 city blocks inside San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, the second annual Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival recently drew thousands of concertgoers with nearly 100 bands and DJs over its three-day run. Given the size and complexity of the event, Outside Lands’ co-promoters — Bonnaroo presenter Superfly and Berkeley’s Another Planet Entertainment — once again turned to Sound On Stage (SOS) for sound reinforcement for all but one of the festival’s stages. SOS, in turn, chose to rely on L-Acoustics loudspeakers for four of those venues.
Three of the stages — Twin Peaks in Speedway Meadows and both Sutro and Presidio in Lindley Meadow — each used 16 V-DOSC, six dV-DOSC, and six ARCS enclosures augmented by L-Acoustics subwoofers.
The Presidio stage additionally benefitted from 14 of the manufacturer’s 115XT HiQ coaxial stage wedges. Sound On Stage also flew a smaller rig comprised of eight dV-DOSC and four dV-SUB on a more intimate stage in Toyota’s Polo Fields tent.
“We had an absolutely flawless weekend and L-Acoustics certainly deserves some of that credit,” says SOS general manager George Edwards. “Considering how many bands we were working with, our crew and systems did an absolutely phenomenal job and the bands and engineers all walked away telling us that they loved how everything went. As usual, our L-Acoustics systems gave us zero challenges and helped us totally ‘smoke’ this event.”
