MCKEES ROCKS, PA — Northern Sound & Light (NSL) recently outfitted the new off-Broadway touring production of Urban Cowboy with DAS Audio Aero series self-powered line array loudspeakers. "We've been doing tours with this production company since the mid-1990s," said Steve Raslevich, president and founder of NSL. "As their productions have grown, we've upgraded their sound systems. This time out, they needed a system that could provide adequate sound coverage in larger venues but also not overpower the smaller venues on their tour."

Raslevich discovered the D.A.S. Aero series in his search to give his customer the right product for their needs. "Our self-powered products are a good fit for them," said Kevin Hill, U.S. sales manager for D.A.S. "They needed to travel on a tight schedule with the sound system, which meant that both reliability and performance were important."

The current touring production of Urban Cowboy has 12 D.A.S. CA-28A mid-high self-powered line array modules and two D.A.S. CA-215A self-powered subwoofers. Two D.A.S. Variant 25As are used for front fills because the band is onstage with the actors, leaving the very front row open for audience seating.

For setup options, the line array can either be flown or ground stacked depending on the venue. The loudspeakers need a line in and a power cord to be functional. "There is not one rack amplifier in the entire rig, which saves space in the truck pack," said Raslevich. "Overall, D.A.S. gives the production more bang for the buck. The flexibility of the self-powered line array can't be beat."
