Alesis Electronics founder Keith Elliott Barr died August 24, 2010 at his home in Vancouver, WA. The cause was an apparent heart attack.
Alesis, founded in 1984, became known for low-cost and highly popular pro audio recording products including the ADAT, one of the company's most successful products. Alesis was sold in 2001 as alternate recording technologies became more popular.
After Elesis, Barr diversified with other projects, Exelys, a golf technology-related company, and Spin Semiconductor, which designed integrated circuits. He also wrote a book published by McGraw-Hill, ASIC Design in the Silicon Sandbox, about application-specific integrated circuits.
Barr is survived by his wife and two children.
