ANNAPOLIS, MD — Tour engineer/production manager Jeff Kaplan, 43, died Jan. 7 after being struck by a vehicle on Route 50 near Annapolis. Police reported that after his own car struck the median, Kaplan got out and was standing in the roadway when a second vehicle hit him. The accident happened just after 2 a.m. near westbound Route 50 and South Haven Road, west of Interstate 97.
Kaplan had worked with bands including A Day to Remember, Brand New, Snoop Dogg, Unwritten Law, P.O.D., Trapt, Blindside, Socialburn and Head Automatica, among others.
In recent years, Kaplan had modified his work schedule so that he would be closer to the Annapolis area and spend more time with his young daughter, Vivien, age 7, who is pictured with Kaplan above.
Kaplan is also survived by Melanie Loughry, Vivien’s mother. The Annapolis Capital Gazette quoted her description of Kaplan as “a really good, supportive father,” encouraging Vivien’s singing aspirations and other hobbies.
Late last year, Vivien Kaplan was among 10 finalists in the “Sing Your Heart Out” video contest sponsored by Disney and Kohl’s department stores, performing a song from Disney’s Frozen.
A memorial fund has been set up on behalf of Vivien at
