In Memoriam: Doug Daniel 1944-2019

EAST GRINSTEAD, U.K. — Longtime Harman/JBL Professional executive Doug Daniel passed away on April 18, 2019 in his hometown of East Grinstead, U.K., about 30 miles south of London. He was 75.

Born Feb. 12, 1944, Daniel hailed from East Grinstead and attended the Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School as a youth, where he became interested in music performance. He later went to Croydon College within the London borough of Croydon and followed that up with advanced studies at SELTEC (the South East London College of Technology) at Lewisham Southwark College in southeast London, attaining an HNC Higher National Certificate in electronic engineering.

Combined with his musical talent and interests, Daniel was ideally suited for the pro audio industry and really hit his stride in 1992, when he joined JBL Professional as director of European sales, a position he held until 2010, when he stepped up within the Harman International organization as senior sales manager Harman Pro Group EMEA East.

A seasoned industry veteran who contributed tremendously to the success of JBL Pro in the U.K., Daniel brought his experience to Harman’s entire international sales team. Daniel was well liked throughout the industry and — aside from his executive skills — he was well-known as someone who was anxious to share his knowledge and skills among colleagues, co-workers and customers alike, often serving as a mentor to help those who were getting started in the industry.

Doug Daniel is survived by Jennifer Daniel, his wife of 46 years, and will long be remembered as a loving husband, father and friend to so many in the industry. He will not be forgotten.

At press time, no plans for a memorial had been announced.
