CHICAGO – Danny Leake, longtime FOH engineer for Stevie Wonder, died from a heart attack on April 27. He was 69. In addition to his live sound prowess, Leake excelled in the studio, with six Grammy nominations for his recordings for dozens of top artists.
Prior to his studio work with artists ranging from Janet Jackson and the Police to Kanye West and Hank Williams, Jr., Leake was a touring and session artist himself, playing guitar with the Five Stairsteps before getting bitten by the technical production bug.
Along with his studio work and recording accolades, he had served as Stevie Wonder’s FOH engineer over a 28-year span.
