NEW YORK, NY – L&M Sound & Light provided K-array's Redline Series, including KR100S, KR200S and KR400S loudspeakers, for the summer launch of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, held at New York's Lincoln Center.
L&M, led by its president, veteran audio engineer Lou Mannarino, provided coverage in three areas: the red carpet area, the tented VIP area and all along Broadway.
"Everything needed to be invisible," Mannarino said. "We could not have loudspeakers showing in any of the photography – and there were about 200 feet of media and international press." Along with the gear's minimal aesthetic impact, "we knew the audio quality of the Redline Series would be outstanding."
If some areas required ample audio coverage, it was equally important to keep audio out of other areas entirely, such as the area where media was conducting interviews with VIPs. The production crew also needed to comply with NYC ordinances, which require that audio not exceed a maximum of 85 dB.

The configuration included eight KR100S pointing towards the street, running along the width of the plaza, perpendicular to Broadway. One KR200S was used for each of the VIP sections, and KR400S loudspeakers were used along the red carpet walk area.
"I'm convinced that we got this gig in part because of the K-array technology we had, and our experience using it," Mannarino continued. "The real challenge was, ‘How do we zone all these VIP areas with screaming kids and the public, as well as cordoning off the media and major networks?' We achieved all that, and we got enormous compliments from the company that designed these events."
