BOISE, Idaho — Foothills Christian Church, based here, recently purchased a Soundcraft Si Expression 3 to control its audio system. Along with the live services, the church offers live streams via its website. The new console helps musicians and performers control their own mix via iPads. The digital console has also proven beneficial to the technicians running the live streaming feed.

Looking to upgrade from its analog console, Foothills Christian Church recently purchased a Harman Soundcraft Si Expression 3 to control its audio system.
Sam Boydstun, Foothills Christian Church Technical Director, needed to replace Foothills Christian Church’s outdated console and sought a way for the musicians and performers to control their own mix. “One of the big things we were looking for was the ability for the musicians and the technicians running the live streaming feed to be able to control their own mix,” said Boydstun. “Having the ability to run the mix from the iPad has been absolutely amazing, that was one of our bigger draws. As well as them being able to control the amount of effects return they get on their individual mixes.”
“I’ve been a big fan of Soundcraft. I’ve worked with the Si Compact Series in the past and I was really pleased with its sound quality,” said Boydstun. “It seemed to be an easy transition for myself and my volunteers from mixing an analog system to get into digital mixing.”
When looking for a new digital board, Boydstun required a console that was easy to use, so that church volunteers would be able to mix on their own. “As far as the use of the Si Expression in the church setting it’s really flexible and it’s a really easy system to teach volunteers and people who have never had the opportunity to be on a digital board before. I’d recommend it to anyone,” Boydstun said.
“The staff and volunteers who have had the opportunity use the Si Expression 3 have given us positive feedback. We’ve also received compliments from the congregation about the sound being much cleaner,” Boydstun concluded.
