DETROIT, MI – David Frangioni and Audio One recently recorded a series of Bob Seger live concerts at the 20,000-seat Palace of Auburn Hills using a Pro Tools HD2 Accel rig interfaced to an Avid VENUE console.

Frangioni was contacted by producer Dan Barnett of Wizard HD to record the shows. “We produce a lot of musical concerts like this, and doing it digitally is a much more simple and efficient way to record,” Barnett said.

“When I got the call to record the live shows in Detroit, it was a great moment, because I grew up listening to Bob’s music,” said Frangioni.

As the team came together, less than a week before the start of the first show, all of the details had to be quickly finalized.  “When you are working in a live setting, you have to make sure that not only is every detail covered, but that while you're recording, nothing interferes with the live concert,” said Frangioni. “As we were recording digitally from the VENUE, everything had to correspond to the live feed to the house (audience).  It only took a few hours to get the routing and patching done so that Brad Divens (FOH engineer) had what he needed and I could record all 64 tracks.  There was approximately four hours, each of the three shows, to continuously record.  Fortunately, it all went smoothly, without incident.”

More than technology, Frangioni credits the team of professionals who worked together to make the project a success, including producer Dan Barnett, FOH engineer Brad Divens, systems engineer Brett Stec from Clair Bros., Pro Tools engineer Mihai Bolini as well as Bob Seger's management team.
