FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – The Who's Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey gave over a thousand people assembled for a Super Bowl XLIV press conference an impromptu sample of what they would be hearing later during the NFL's Bridgestone Super Bowl XLIV Halftime Show. The event, held at the Fort Lauderdale Convention Center's Floridian Ballroom, got sound reinforcement from four Renkus-Heinz's IC Live line array systems provided by AVW-TELAV Audio Visual Solutions. Using acoustic guitars, Daltrey and Townshend performed "Behind Blue Eyes," "Pinball Wizard" and "Won't Get Fooled Again."
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers didn't really need an introduction, but NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy performed that courtesy anyway, and for the sound crew, the event couldn't have gone much smoother.
"We were able to set up two dual IC Live systems in ten minutes flat, with just two guys," said AVW-TELAV's Sean Austin. "The IC Live takes a fraction of the setup time of a traditional rigged array. And it's always fun to see people's reactions when they hear such a big sound from such a small system. Most audio connoisseurs look at the system a bit skeptically when they first see it, and then they're speechless when they hear it."
"This was our second year using the IC Live for the Super Bowl press conference," added Martin Reeves, AVW-TELAV's director of technical staging. "We were thrilled with the system last year, and it was a no-brainer to use it again. In fact, we liked it so much we actually acquired two full IC Live systems for our rental and staging division in Canada. We're excited about IC Live and confident it will serve our clients well."
