Boston Transportation System Powered by Crown

BOSTON – On a daily basis, the ability for transportation authorities to communicate with passengers is important.  However, in these times of heightened security, it is even more important for officials to know those safety and security broadcasts will be delivered in a crisis. ARINC, a leading integrator, specializing in transportation broadcast systems has selected numerous Crown Audio amplifiers in its revamp of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) system, the nation’s 5th largest mass transit system.

In designing Boston’s transit public address system, reliability and convenience were the top priorities. It was for this reason that ARINC selected Crown Audio amplifiers, favoring the CTs 4200 for the bulk of the system.

According to Dave Morrissey, ARINC vice president, Surface Transportation, the new station PA systems, utilizing digital processing by Crown Audio and text-to-speech technology, deliver clearer and crisper audio to keep MBTA customers up-to-date on the status of the trains.

“We primarily chose Crown Audio’s CTs 4200 for the installation flexibility, reliability and reporting we desire with their easy integration with HiQnet and CobraNet,” said Morrissey. “These amps are rock solid but if there is ever a problem, they will report the error back to us so we can correct it without spending unnecessary man hours to test the system.

Marc Kellom, Crown Audio’s vice president of Marketing noted, ”Building high performance and highly reliable amplifiers is our fundamental goal. When the MBTA selected our CTs 4200, it is a testament to the pride we put in our products and we are very pleased that we could offer a solution for the MBTA that will be used on a daily basis, but also at a time where performance is most critical.”
