BOSTON — Numerous concert, theatre and sports events were canceled in the immediate aftermath of the two Boston Marathon bombings on April 15 and again as the city’s manhunt intensified before the two bombing suspects were killed and captured April 19. That lockdown included a shutdown of virtually all municipal and regional mass transit.
The first group of concert cancellations and postponements included the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s April 15 performance of Beethoven’s music featuring conductor Marcelo Lehninger and pianist Gabriela Montero.
The second round of cancelations came during the city’s lockdown and manhunt for bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev the evening of April 19. Along with all major sporting events including Red Sox and Bruins home games, all Blue Man Group performances, The Big Apple Circus and the Boston Philharmonic at Symphony Hall canceled and postponed shows.

- All Plaza Theatre performances at the Boston Center for the Arts (BCA)
- The Book of Mormon (Boston Opera House)
- Closer (Stanford Calderwood Pavilion)
- Two Gentlemen of Verona (Cutler Majestic Theatre)
- Beowolf — A Thousand Years of Baggage (American Repertory Theater)
- La Clemenza di Tito (Boston University)
- No Operation Epsilon (Central Square Theater)
- Company One’s She Kills Monsters (Boston Center of the Arts)
- The Last Twinkie (Improv Asylum)
- By The Way, Meet Vera Stark (Lyric Stage)
- Pippi Longstocking (Wheelock Family Theatre)
- Trojan Women (Paramount Mainstage)
- Pericles (Modern Theatre, Suffolk University)

Stay Strong Boston, a benefit scheduled at the Royale Boston for April 19, also had to be canceled; all proceeds would have gone to bombing victims via www.onefundboston.org.
