2019 Tony Award Nominations Announced

The nominees were announced April 30 at TonyAwards.com. The ceremony is set for June 9.

NEW YORK – Nominees for the 73rd annual Tony Awards, set to take place at Radio City Music Hall on June 9, were announced April 30.

For Best Sound Design of a Musical, nominees included Peter Hylenski (for both Beetlejuice and King Kong), Steve Canyon Kennedy (for Ain’t Too Proud – The Life and Times of the Temptations), Drew Levy (for Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Oklahoma!), and Nevin Steinberg and Jessica Paz (for Hadestown). For Best Sound Design of a Play, nominees included Adam Cork (for Ink), Scott Lehrer (for To Kill a Mockingbird), Fitz Patton (for Choir Boy), Nick Powell (for The Ferryman) and Eric Sleichim (for Network).

The productions with the top number of nominations included Hadestown, with 14; Ain’t Too Proud – The Life and Times of the Temptations, with 12; Tootsie, with 11; The Ferryman and To Kill a Mockingbird, with nine each; and Beetlejuice and Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Oklahoma, with eight each.

As for backstage kudos for lighting, sound, scenic and costume design, musicals racking up the most Tony nominations included Hadestown, Ain’t Too Proud and Beetlejuice, with the most nominations for plays going to The Ferryman and To Kill a Mockingbird. The winners will be announced during the ceremony, which will be broadcast live on CBS and 8 p.m.
