CRISPENDORF, Germany – The Wolfszeit open-air festival in Crispendorf near Schleiz in Thuringia is one of the few pagan and darkmetal festivals in Germany. Gear from ProAudio Technology was used for the monitoring along with the main P.A. for the event, which drew about 3,000 visitors. The setup included 10 HT16 tops, 16 SW18 and eight SW28 subs.

Mike Berus, audio engineer for Letzte Instanz and Daniel Orange, was impressed with the gear.
“The HT16 speakers offer an incredibly high resolution. Brilliant highs and never annoying upper mids,” Berus said. “I don’t know about any other system with such a great transient behavior, which stays extremely clean even with high sound pressure levels. Simply top. Used in a cardio array, the SW18 and the SW28 subs delivered very punchy, tight lows, even at a distance of 30m (100 ft.). With the cardio I noticed a very good SPL reduction behind the PA. The M20 monitors were awesome. High sound pressure levels with no audible distortions and a very balanced frequency response.”
After the systems from Villingen had already stood the test in 2012, this year the technical heads decided to realize also the entire monitoring with ProAudio Technology, in addition to the main PA.
The approx. 3,000 visitors enjoyed the sound of 10 HT16 tops, 16 SW18 and 8 SW28 subs. The subwoofers were employed in a 3:1 cardioid mode and had been mounted on dollies before to enable a fast setup time. The entire main PA was driven by just four DELTA14.4-DSP system amplifiers.
On stage 6 M20 monitors were used, assigned as requested to a max. of 5 ways. For the sidefill 4 SW18 subs with 2 HT16 tops were used and for the drumfill 2 SW18s and 2 MT12s. All loudspeakers were driven by three DELTA8.4-DSP system amplifiers.
“Never before did I hear a heavy metal musician say: ’Mix is alright, but could you please turn down everything a bit?’” noted audio engineer Tim Werner, who has worked for, among others, Prodigy and Soulfly at the Wolfszeit Festival since 2008. “And this with a linear EQ setting on the monitor. Combined with the ProAudio Technology side- and drumfills, the M20s produced a super transparent and clear stage sound. Your job at the monitoring console can’t get any easier. No comparison to the previous years. Sure thing, the M20 ranks among the best monitors I’ve ever heard.”
