Total Events Uses Harman and Shure Gear to Support Davis Cup Tennis Tournament

BELMONT, Victoria, Australia — Total Events supplied the audio requirements, including background music, MC and umpires, for the Geelong Lawn Tennis Club stands at the recent Davis Cup tennis tournament. The main challenge for Total Events was keeping a minimal layout without obscuring sightlines. Their stock of low-profile JBL VRX speaker cabinets proved well-suited to the task.

More details from Harman (www.harman.com), Shure (www.shure.com) and Jands (www.jands.com.au):

“The VRX cabinets are discreet so you can point and shoot without obscuring the view of the tennis action,” commented Bill Busbridge, managing director of Total Events. “They have a nice high power output and it’s good to be able to network the amplifiers so I can control remotely, time align etc.”

Six JBL VRX-918 powered subs and twelve JBL VRX-932 line array cabinets were used powered by six Crown IT8000 amplifiers all networked along with a Soundcraft Si control console.

“I absolutely love the Soundcraft Si Compact console,” declared Busbridge. “I have two of them in hire and I have also sold a couple. I really enjoy using them and we’re using them a lot on our shows & events. I really like that you can move channels to any layer is great. The small footprint is a bonus and it’s just so easy to grab it and use. We find a lot of walk-in engineers are familiar with the console. For example, last weekend we supplied gear for the Potbellez and their FOH guy knew the console backwards.”

Four Shure UR Series radio microphones were used so that Busbridge could check the spectrum easily, a necessity with so lots of media and other elements of production on site allocation can be demanding (especially when it’s not managed).

“They enable me to scan and monitor the bandwidth knowing that I have clear frequency allocation is comforting,” concluded Busbridge.
