George V Stadium in Curepipe, Mauritius Upgrades to a Weatherproof Speaker System
Rentacolor Mauritius LTD Installs a One Systems Direct Weather Proof Speaker System at George V Stadium in Curepipe Mauritius
NASHVILLE – George V Stadium in Curepipe, Mauritius, recently approved the installation of One Systems Direct Weather, high-output loudspeakers. Prosound (Pty) Ltd. of Johannesburg, South Africa performed the site analysis and system design. Rentacolor Mauritius LTD, installed the loudspeakers. George V Stadium is the home of the island nation’s national football (soccer) team, nicknamed Club M.
Construction of the original George V Stadium’s began in 1954 and it opened in 1955. After 48 years, the stadium was demolished and replaced in 2003 and the 2003 Indian Ocean Island Games were held in the new George V Stadium. With a seating capacity of 6,200, the stadium hosts local and national soccer games, and an occasional rugby tournament.
In 2012 stadium officials realized that the nearly decade old sound system was in desperate need of an upgrade prior to the upcoming season. They began searching for a weatherproof system that is specifically designed for speech and music reinforcement as part of a series of renovations. “After the stadium contacted us about their sound system upgrade, we knew One Systems would be the best speakers to maximize the quality of sound for this outdoor stadium,” says Dominique Hardy, Head of Technical Department at Rentacolor Mauritius Ltd.
When Rentacolor was awarded the contract to upgrade the system, they chose One Systems based on their experience from previous installations, their knowledge of the brand’s performance, as well as its weatherproofing designs. Due to Mauritius’ extremely warm summer temperatures and torrential thunderstorms, Rentacolor knew that weatherproofing was a must for this audio installation. “We needed a great sound system that would resist the wet, humid environment and these units work splendidly in these demanding conditions,” says, Dominique.
“Due to the fact that the stadium was already built made for a bit of a challenge when it came to wiring the speakers,” says Dominique. “Wiring was the only issue though, and the speakers fit perfectly and sound amazing. One Systems 112IM speakers were installed on both the west and east end wings of the stadium, and Rentacolor’s client couldn’t be more pleased.”
One Systems President, Doug MacCallum says, “Our Direct Weather speakers provide full bandwidth audio, high-output and superior intelligibility. This stadium is another perfect setting for our speakers, and we’re happy to be a part of this high-profile, international venue.”
