SHANGHAI, China — The partnership between Sennheiser China, which represents K-array, and the Shanghai Concert Hall includes the installation of K-array speakers within the 1,122-seat venue. The system includes nine white KP102 units, two KMT18P subwoofers and a KP102 and a KMT18P unit for front fill.

We find K-array at the historic Shanghai Concert Hall, the temple of symphonic music in China which has recently been re-built and re-assembled just meters away from it’s original location displaying a ‘striking neo-classical 30’s style’ for hosting and promoting classical music even Jazz. Sennheiser China who represents K-array in the great country of China has recently partnered with the Shanghai Concert Hall to support the future of its proud musical culture and build the foundations for a “modern platform” promoting the musical arts in Shanghai and elsewhere in China, as written in the original press release.
In this new partnership, Sennheiser China installed a full set of top theatre and sound equipment, they also designed a state of the art centralized audio recording control system including the cutting-edge media recovery microphone (the world renowned wireless 9000 series). For the diffusion, K-array was used; in particular, nine white KP102’s were installed on each side embedded into the architecture of the room (which has more than 1,000 seats on two levels reaching 9 meters high). For the low frequencies, two KMT18P parts were positioned, while the front-fill was created with a KP102 and a KMT18P.
Ziqian Chen, Technical Manager at Sennheiser commented, “The K-array speakers are so thin and elegant, they are perfectly placed in the environment, hidden and not so obtrusive to the eye. They are much better than the ‘black boxes’ that were there before. The sound is great and delivers consistent quality in a demanding environment such as this.” This facility is used for the performance of singers and jazz ensemble (not the classical performances) and for all announcements and presentations so it must support speech and music to perfection. The Concert Hall has also set up a team to manage the new equipment with training from both Sennheiser China and K-array to get the best results from the equipment.
On 10 March the official ceremony was held for the new beginning of this great hall which has been re-named Sennheiser Shanghai Concert Hall, officiated by Daniel Sennheiser, Sennheiser CEO with his brother Andreas, Marc Vincent, president of Sennheiser Greater China and Hong Kong, Zhang Zhe, president of Shanghai Grand Theatre Arts Center and Zhang Ming, general manager of the Shanghai Concert Hall. “We are proud and honoured by the opportunity to join forces with the prestigious Shanghai Concert Hall, to promote the music and culture of sound in China,” said Marc Vincent during the ceremony. This was echoed by Zhang Zhe, president of the Shanghai Grand Theatre Arts Center: “We are delighted that the Shanghai Concert Hall and Sennheiser have reached this incredible collaboration at the beginning of the second decade after moving to the new venue. The opportunity to join forces with Sennhseiser offers many development opportunities for the future of the concert hall.
