POHANG, SOUTH KOREA – Pohang City located in North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea, near Seoul is the main seaport of the province and home of Pohang First Presbyterian church founded in 1905. In preparation of 110th anniversary celebration in 2015, the 2500 seat church updated its sound system. AVIX, the Korean distributor for Portuguese manufacturer NEXT-proaudio, recently installed a NEXT-proaudio sound system within the church’s main sanctuary.

The city is well-known for steel making because there are top-3 manufacturers, POSCO, Hyundai Steel and Dongkuk Steel in the city.
In addition, there are some old and very important churches in Pohang. Among the churches, Pohang First Presbyterian church is over 110 years, founded in 1905. At the beginning, they had a small space for worship, they moved to the current place, and built a new building in 2007. For preparation of 110th anniversary celebration in 2015, they started the renovation including the sound systems from last September.
The size of the main sanctuary in Pohang church is 37m by 30m and the capacity is 2,500 seats.
AVIX, the Korean distributor for Portuguese manufacturer NEXT-proaudio, recently installed a NEXT-proaudio sound system within the church’s main sanctuary, the main aims of the installation being to achieve high sound pressure levels with high sound fidelity and good speech intelligibility throughout the venue.
Ten NEXT LA12 line array speakers in an ivory finish was chosen, with four NEXT LAs218 subwoofers for the main hang on each hang for the left and right side over the stage. Four LAs218 was flown behind LA12 cabinets. Four NEXT X12 full-range speakers were used as front fills and choir fill with eight NEXT X8 for under balcony and NEXT X10 for upper balcony. Four NEXT LAm112x were placed as monitor speakers. Five NEXT MQ10000 amplifiers powering the main speakers (low and medium frequencies), five NEXT MA2300 amplifiers for main speakers High Frequencies and four NEXT MD14000 amplifiers were also used for subwoofers with four NEXT DP260 and one NEXT DP240 DSP processors. For all upper and under balcony systems were used two MA2300 and two MA3200 amps power and one MQ10000 for monitor.
At the church’s request the whole system has also been custom painted in Ivory color to match its design.
For the installation and tuning, Antonio Correia who is the CEO and R&D Manager of NEXT-proaudio flew from Portugal with Tiago Correia also a Sound Engineer from NEXT-proaudio, and they offered the installation and tuning. They checked a whole systems of connection one by one before the rigging. According to Antonio Correia “The system serves perfectly for the worship service. It performs great at any level and is consistent even as the level is pushed, with contemporary services running in proper dBA range.”
