LONDON — Peavey joined the world in celebrating Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee by providing a full line of Classic Series guitar amplifiers for the Diamond Jubilee Concert, which featured performances from musicians such as Sir Paul McCartney, Elton John, Stevie Wonder and Sir Cliff Richard outside Buckingham Palace in London.

Milton McDonald, a longtime Peavey amplifier user, served as the main guitarist for the Diamond Jubilee Concert house band with his versatile Peavey Classic 50/410 combo, while guitar technician Steve Prior brought along four Classic 50/410 amps, plus some Classic 50/212 amps and a Delta Blues, for the six guest guitarists who performed during the event.
“Any tube amp needs to be driven hard, and the Classic 50 comes in a fantastic format as it’s a dual-channel amp, which means you can really control it sonically,” said Prior. “You can balance things up, even with six different guitarists.”
Prior said that the guitarists for Cliff Richard, Tom Jones and Annie Lennox all plugged into either the Classic 50/410 or Classic 50/212 amps. Prior revealed that the responsive EQ on the Classic 50 amps was a major advantage for the guitarists, who had to cover a wide variety of musical styles.
“Some EQ sections on amplifiers don’t do much at all, but with these Peavey amps, you have all the top end you could wish for. It’s an extremely serviceable and durable amp.”
Prior added, “I have absolutely no criticisms whatsoever. I have my own hire business and work with loads of amps, so I know what’s good and what’s not; going back 30 years, my first amp was a Peavey Bandit 112, and that held its own against anything. After this show, I am now on the lookout for a 410 and 212 myself, and I am certainly an ambassador for the Peavey cause; I’ll encourage anyone to use one.”
