IPSWICH, U.K. – Celestion announced the availability of the book, High-Quality Horn Loudspeaker Systems, at Parts Express. This tome, weighing in at more than 1,000 pages, was penned by Bjørn Kolbrek and Thomas Dunker. Celestion calls it the first book of its kind, one that addresses the history, theory, and design of horn loudspeakers in a complete, accurate, and scholarly fashion. (Co-author Kolbrek also works as an engineer for Celestion.)
More details from Celestion (www.celestion.com):
Covering more than 100 years of development from the earliest uses of horns and horn-loaded transducers, High-Quality Horn Loudspeaker Systems is the authoritative reference on the subject and draws upon years of painstaking original research by the authors, both native Norwegians.
Bjørn Kolbrek earned a Ph.D. from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim. He is an engineer for Celestion, and has since researched and developed horn simulation software. His passion for audio and electronics extending back to childhood interests in radar and ham radio, Kolbrek does much of the heavy lifting in the theory and design sections of the book.
Thomas Dunker is a lifelong audio enthusiast who operated a website about horn loudspeakers in the 1990s and has studied the subject for more than 25 years. His contributions are centered in the history section of the book, and like Kolbrek, he is an avid audio experimenter and do-it-yourselfer. Originally meeting via email in 2004, Kolbrek and Dunker have collaborated on horn research ever since. At the 2019 Audio Engineering Society convention in New York, they co-presented a session about the origins of compression drivers. Kolbrek’s father, Reidar Kolbrek, created the illustrations for the book.
High-Quality Horn Loudspeaker Systems is currently available for sale at Parts Express in the U.S. as well as from Celestion’s U.K. distributor Lean Business Audio. To view the table of contents and read a personal statement from the authors, visit hornspeakersystems.info.
